A Small, Beautiful Wedding at St Mary’s and The Talbot Hotel, Malton
Some weddings are big, flashy affairs. Others are quieter, more relaxed, and all the better for it. Catherine and Jon’s wedding was very much the latter, the kind of day that just felt right from start to finish.
On a crisp Yorkshire day, their closest family and friends gathered at St Mary’s, a church full of character, history, and that calm hush you only get in old stone buildings.
The ceremony was simple, heartfelt, and completely them. No fuss, no frills, just perfect vows, plenty of smiles, and that look couples give each other when they know they’ve absolutely nailed it.
After the “I do’s” (and a proper Yorkshire confetti tunnel), everyone headed over to The Talbot Hotel in Malton for the reception. It couldn’t have been a better fit. Warm, welcoming, and full of character, it’s the sort of place where you instantly feel at home and the kettle might as well already be on.
With a smaller guest list, the whole day had a lovely, easy pace to it. No rushing about, no timetable stress, just good food, flowing drinks, and proper catch-ups with the people who matter most. Laughter filled the rooms, stories were shared, and the speeches landed exactly as they should: funny, emotional, and just the right side of cheeky.
Later on, we slipped outside for a few couple portraits. The Talbot Malton offers an amazing backdrop for any York wedding photographer.
There’s something about intimate weddings that always hits differently. When you keep things small, you get more time with your favourite people, more space to soak it all in, and a day that’s shaped around moments rather than schedules. Catherine and Jon’s wedding was a perfect reminder that love doesn’t need scale to feel big.
From the charm of St Mary’s to the warm, relaxed welcome at The Talbot Hotel, Malton, the whole day flowed beautifully, easygoing, heartfelt, and full of joy. A cracking little Yorkshire wedding.
